emergency disaster preparedness plan

In the case of an earthquake or other disaster how would this be handled?
Two scenarios I have wondered about:
What would a hair salon do if you were in the middle of a getting your hair colored or frosted and suddenly there was a huge disaster? Do they have a contingency/emergency plan?
What about if you were at an acupuncturist? Would you run outside with a multitude of needles in you, looking like Pinhead in Hellraiser?
In this age of preparedness, we are told to think of scenarios and what we would do…so I am thinking….
I live in the Bay Area,
in Northern California.
There is no such thing
as being prepared.

Disaster Management, though called by numerous names over the years has manifested itself constantly in Saint Lucia. The following year Hurricane Allen blasted Saint Lucia. A year later in 1991 Saint Lucia, together with fifteen other Caribbean States signed the Articles that created the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Response Agency (CDERA) Disaster Management in Saint Lucia is conducted on a voluntary basis and during an event NEMO is part of a larger network that comes into existence to respond to a disaster. A Community Approach to Disaster Preparedness
$25.24 The First 72 Hours is the seminal anthology of the perspectives of public and private sector leaders who came together after September 11, 2001 to design more disaster-resilient communities. Under the umbrella of the Suburban Emergency Management Project, these leaders learned from national experts and one another that all disasters are intensely local at first and that most communities are on their own immediately following disaster impact--often for as long as 72 hours. This new awareness mandated updating strategies to improve disaster preparedness, particularly in light of the threat of terrorism.pA wide gamut of perspectives are laid out in the book, including those of doctors and hospitals, city managers, police officers, firefighters, paramedics, American Red Cross volunteers, hospital accreditors, the media, business managers, utility companies, emergency managers, public health officials, academics, and elected public officials. In their own words, these individuals convey the importance of learning how to map the myriad organizations involved in local disaster preparedness and response; analyzing, refining and rehearsing local disaster roles; and getting to know individual personalities when in specific roles.pThe First 72 Hours is an essential resource for professionals and private citizens alike who want to know what kinds of questions must be asked and answered to better prepare their communities to survive future disaster.pThere's a special providence in the fall of a sparrow. If it be now, 'tis not to come; if it be not to come, it will be now; if it be not now, yet it will come: the readiness is all.--Hamlet V, II, William Shakespeare |

Public School Emergency Preparedness and Crisis Management Plan
$99 Written in accordance with the President's 2003 homeland security directive and the Department of Education's guidelines, and in response to the ever-present threats facing our school systems, this book helps schools and institutions develop a comprehensive emergency response plan. This book outlines programs and procedures that can be applied to any school system to address hazard mitigation and prevention, emergency preparedness and response, and recovery and restoration of school functions to an effective learning environment. This book also outlines, in the event of an emergency involving response by fire and/or law enforcement, the district/school site personnel who should establish an Incident Command System-based response organization in accordance with procedures outlined in the National Incident Management System. In addition, the authors predetermine, to the extent possible, operational procedures across any U.S. school system and cooperating governmental, private, and volunteer agencies for responding to and recovering from any and all types of natural, human, or technology-based emergencies that may occur within school system operations or outside the jurisdiction of the school system but nonetheless cause/could cause collateral impact to school system operations. Contents examine emergency notification and immediate actions; concept of operations, including first key actions, partnering with community agencies, and the initial briefing; crisis management team action checklists; response resources, including personnel, response team partners, emergency evacuation/receiving facilities, and emergency equipment and supplies; emergency response flip charts for principals, teachers, se |
